ben's quick and easy indestructible coating: 1: caulk/spackle + sand/scrape (bondo for industrial apps) 2: kilz bullseye white primer 3: caulk + sand missed-spots 4: take shower, put on clean-room jumpsuit + socks + hair net, etc 5: kilz bullseye white primer (dry 1-2 hour) 5.5: (optional) tint the surface w/ink or house paint 6: (optional, for durability) water based polyurethane, glossy (dry 2-3 hour) 7: water based polyurethane, to desired gloss level it's very important you have total denial of others' access to the room so they don't spread hairs all over your white floor. hair and dust will be very visible under the polyurethane top coat, and impossible to remove. it's nearly impossible to clean up all the hairs, so it might be easier to just add another coat of primer instead of trying to vacuum them up. if the surfaces are flat and smooth, use a velvet paint roller. if the surface is complex or rough, use an airless high pressure sprayer for large surfaces, (this will use more paint per square foot, and cause a lot of mist and overspray, and you must wear a respirator filter) or a air spray-gun for small projects. (use well filtered air if you go this route.) don't worry about the tiny bubbles in the polyurethane, they will disappear when it dries. of course, testing beforehand never hurts.
