The Milling Machine  

Shhh...the milling machine is just a big lathe. Don't tell anybody. To "mill" means to cut bits off a workpiece with a rotating cutter. Usually these cutters look like oversized drill bits. Milling is most productive when used to make shapes with parallel planar geometry.
